Studying for Security+ | Threats, Attacks, and Vulnerabilities

Just as a reminder, I’m using Mike Chapple’s Cert Prep series hosted on LinkedIn Learning.

So far so good. I feel like Mike does a great job staying pretty close to the material that is important for the test. Some of the feedback I have read is that sometimes he goes off in the weeds explaining something or showing examples of a topic — he will literally show how to do a brute-force attack or fuzzing using actual products. I can see some people already knowing what these principals are and not needing it but for me it has been really helpful for topics that I understood in principal but never have actually implemented. For the rest of users, just skip ahead on the video.

When watching the series, I take notes highlighting almost everything he talks about. I learn more when I type it out and also will re-read after I complete the section and eventually the entire course. I’ll post the notes here, if you are following along with the same series, I think it will be helpful.

In terms of difficulty, personally this is a 2 or 3 out of 10. The hardest parts are the all of acronyms you have to memorize. I can see why this is recommended as the first cert, it does a great job of introducing you to the different topics and takes the time to explain concepts in depth. This will definitely set me up for the next certification.

Here are my notes if they can be of any use. I will say that these notes are in the worst shape compared to the second section I just finished. It took me a bit to get into the groove / style for formatting them.
